Partial Hospitalization Program
The Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) at CHNK Behavioral Health uses a trauma-informed, multidisciplinary approach to address and treat significant primary mental health diagnoses – including depression, anxiety, disruptive mood dysregulation disorder, and others. The goal of the Partial Hospitalization Program is to provide a service that can be a safe step down from hospitalization. This program can be used to treat clients who do not meet criteria for inpatient admission to potentially avoid worsening symptoms requiring hospitalization or residential treatment.
Program Overview
When to consider partial hospitalization
Adolescents who experience pervasive mental health issues, and who require a structured outpatient treatment environment to prevent hospitalization, may benefit from the PHP.
What to expect
Treatment takes place 5 days a week – Monday through Friday – for 4 hours each day. A typical day may include individual therapy, group therapy, skill-building, and medication management (if needed). Each client has an individualized treatment plan that is unique to their specific needs and developed in partnership with our treatment team.
Who is eligible?
Adolescents ages 8-14 are eligible for the Partial Hospitalization Program.
Who will be working with me/my family?
Our team is comprised of licensed professional counselors (LPCA, LPCC) and clinical social workers (CSW, LCSW). Some clients may also benefit from medication management provided by our in-house Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or from assistance that can be provided by one of our targeted case managers.
Where does treatment take place?
The Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program takes place at our Devou Park Campus.
How long is treatment?
The length of treatment varies by client and their specific needs/progress, but the average length is 4-6 weeks.

From Our Program Director
Kara Pangburn, MSW, LCSW
Day Treatment and PHP Supervisor
The PHP utilizes a brief treatment model, evidence-based practices, and solution-focused techniques to address each client's individual needs and concerns. The program focuses on helping clients manage their emotions, reduce the frequency of self-harming behaviors, assist clients in improving their communication and problem-solving skills, and equip clients with healthy coping mechanisms.
Our Partial Hospitalization Program is just one step on an easier path to mental health.
At CHNK Behavioral Health, we are committed to creating an easier path to mental health by offering a wide array of treatment options.
