Intensive Outpatient Program
CHNK Behavioral Health offers multiple Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) that follow a structured, trauma-informed, and evidence-based approach to therapeutic care for children, adolescents, and adults who need help recognizing, managing, and overcoming mental health and/or substance use disorders.
Program Overview
When to consider intensive outpatient programs
Intensive Outpatient Programming may be right for children and adolescents who require more regular therapy than weekly sessions. Clients with pervasive mental health and/or substance use issues, clients experiencing crises or those stepping down from a higher level of treatment may benefit from IOP.
What to expect
IOP Programs provide extra resources and support for clients who need more advanced/regular therapy than weekly sessions. An IOP offers several group sessions each week that focus on building support by hearing and learning from other group members’ experiences, improving treatment outcomes through use of evidence-based practices, and increasing access to ancillary services like medication management and targeted case management.
Who is eligible?
Typical presenting issues of clients participating in IOP include depression, anxiety, trauma, and/or substance use. CHNK offers multiple IOP programs for children and teens.
Who will be working with me/my family?
Our team is comprised of licensed professional counselors (LPCA, LPCC) and clinical social workers (CSW, LCSW). Some clients may also benefit from medication management provided by our in-house Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or from assistance that can be provided by one of our targeted case managers.
Where does treatment take place?
CHNK offers IOP Programs at our Outpatient Office and in select partnering NKY school districts.
How long is treatment?
The length of treatment varies by client and their specific needs/progress.

Why CHNK? There are a few areas that separate CHNK from all other Intensive Outpatient programs in the region: outstanding clinicians, excellent program materials, and phenomenal outcomes. But the biggest difference that CHNK offers is the sense of closeness and collaboration between clinicians, clients, and their families. Through this strength in relationship-building, our clinicians are able to effectively empower clients to be open and honest about their mental health struggles, allowing clients to begin making progress starting from day one.
Our Intensive Outpatient Program is just one step on an easier path to mental health.
At CHNK Behavioral Health, we are committed to creating an easier path to mental health by offering a wide array of treatment options. All services begin with the completion of a Comprehensive Assessment, where a Licensed Professional will work collaboratively with you to identify treatment service(s) that are tailored to the specific needs of you or your child/family.
